Some changing pads are thin and some are cushy so make sure to check the thickness and choose a cushier one for your baby's comfort. Handles- If you are choosing a tote, make sure that the handle length works well with you. They should be long enough to easily be slung over your shoulder but short enough so that your bag doesn’t drag on the ground when carried like a suitcase. Fabric- Don’t get too caught up in the style before deciding if the fabric will be practical. Quilted or silk fabric can look really nice but after a while it can become dirty looking because it is difficult to clean. Choose a nylon or microfibre fabric that is easy to wipe off stains and clean. Also, opt for a darker color or pattern that can hide stains rather than a light solid color that will only emphasize stains and become dungy looking. Storage- Look for a bag that has lots of good storage space. Some bags are great in price and fashion, but only have one compartment which can become a giant black hole. Make sure you check to see if it has all the compartments you require before you buy it. Mesh or clear pockets are great because you can locate what you need much easier than if you have to unzip every pocket to remember where you put things. An easy fix for those beautiful bags that lack storage space is to create your own 'pockets' by using see through zip lock bags. Price- You get what you pay for. Even though you might find the cutest little designer diaper bag at a really great price, make sure the construction will do it’s job in the long run. You don’t want to be buying another bag in a few months because your first bag didn’t have the quality you needed.
Usually you can find a solid well constructed bag in the price range of $35-120. A good rule of thumb: if they cost less than $35, they probably won’t last.
